Andrew Cashner pitched 7 1/3 solid innings and Chris Denorfia drove in a pair of runs as host San Diego shut down Colorado.
Tommy Medica belted a solo homer while Alexi Amarista singled and scored twice for the Padres. Cashner (2-1), who one-hit Detroit on Friday, allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out five while scattering nine hits and Huston Street worked around a two-out double to pinch hitter Wilin Rosario in the ninth to earn his fifth save.
Justin Morneau homered among his three hits and added a sacrifice fly for Colorado, which fell to 2-4 on its seven-game road trip. Jorge De La Rosa (0-3) yielded three runs (two earned) and seven hits in six innings while falling to 7-3 lifetime against San Diego.
Morneau ripped the first pitch he saw out to right with one out in the second before Medica led off the bottom half by crushing a 2-2 pitch over the left-field wall. The Padres scored twice with two outs in the fifth when Amarista scored on a passed ball and Denorfia followed with a double to drive in Everth Cabrera.
The Rockies loaded the bases on consecutive one-out singles by Morneau, Nolan Arenado and Jeff Rutledge in the sixth before Jordan Pacheco hit into a 6-4-3 double play. The Padres added an insurance run in the seventh when Denorfia drove in Amarista with a two-out single ahead of Morneau's sacrifice fly in the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Padres 3B Chase Headley did not play because of a mild right biceps strain while Cabrera returned the lineup after missing Tuesday's game with a sore right knee. ... De La Rosa worked into the sixth inning for the first time this season after pitching 4 1/3 frames in each of his first three starts. ... Rosario, who is 5-for-12 with two home runs and four RBIs in his last three games and a .370 hitter at Petco Field, did not catch De La Rosa for the third consecutive outing after the two had communication issues on Opening Day.
