Rockies 8, Padres 6 (10)

Justin Morneau smacked a two-out walkoff homer to straightaway center field in the 10th inning as Colorado took two of three from visiting San Diego.

Carlos Gonzalez singled with one out against Dale Thayer (2-2) and Morneau’s sixth career game-winning blast cleared the outstretched attempt of Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin and made a winner of Nick Masset (1-0). Troy Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson also homered for the Rockies, who turned the third triple play in franchise history.

San Diego tied the game with one out in the ninth when Everth Cabrera hit a two-run homer to right-center field to hand Colorado closer LaTroy Hawkins his first blown save of the season. Rene Rivera went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI double for the Padres.

Seth Smith homered in the first inning for San Diego before Charlie Blackmon stroked a two-run single and Dickerson hit a two-run shot to left in the third. Tulowitzki hit an opposite-field blast in the fifth to make it 5-3 and Rivera answered with a homer to left in the sixth before Gonzalez delivered a broken-bat run-scoring single to center in the seventh to again make it a two-run margin.

Colorado turned the triple play in the third inning when interference was called on Smith for his slide into second. Carlos Quentin hit a grounder to third and Nolan Arenado threw to DJ LeMahieu and Smith was ruled to have gone out of the base path, which resulted in Quentin being ruled out at first.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Padres manager Bud Black successfully challenged two Colorado steal attempts in the first inning as both were overturned after a review. … Tulowitzki went 1-for-5 and is 36-for-63 with eight homers and 24 RBIs at home this season. … Colorado starter Juan Nicasio allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings, while San Diego’s Donn Roach gave up four runs and four hits in three innings while making his first major-league start in place of injured Andrew Cashner (elbow).
