Royals 4, Angels 1 (11)

Eric Hosmer went 3-for-4, including a two-run homer with one out in the 11th inning as visiting Kansas City defeated Los Angeles to take a 2-0 lead in the American League Division Series.

Lorenzo Cain legged out an infield hit off Kevin Jepsen (0-1) and Hosmer followed with a blast into the right-field bleachers while Salvador Perez added a run-scoring infield single later in the inning. Brandon Finnegan (1-0) worked a hitless 10th and Greg Holland picked up the save for the second straight night.

The Royals can clinch the best-of-five series when they host Game 3 on Sunday. Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura allowed one run and five hits over seven innings, while Matt Shoemaker of the Angels gave up an unearned run and five hits in six frames.

Los Angeles threatened in the eighth, when C.J. Cron smacked a leadoff double, but pinch-runner Collin Cowgill was thrown out at third by Kansas City center fielder Jarrod Dyson while trying to advance on a flyout to left-center. Kole Calhoun reached with two out in the 11th on Omar Infante’s throwing error before Holland struck out Mike Trout to end it.

The Royals struck in the second as Hosmer singled and moved to second on an error by right fielder Calhoun before scoring on Alex Gordon’s single to center. Los Angeles tied it in the sixth as Calhoun singled with two out, Trout walked and Albert Pujols singled through the right side.
