Mets 3, Orioles 2

NEW YORK -- Right-hander Bartolo Colon threw 7 2/3 strong innings Tuesday night and the New York Mets snapped their scoreless drought by scoring three fourth-inning runs in a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field.

The Mets (17-10) won for just the fourth time in their last 11 games. The Orioles (12-12) lost for the second time in their last seven games.

Colon, who turns 42 on May 24, allowed the one run on six hits and no walks while striking out nine to improve to 5-1. He hasn't issued a walk in his last five starts and walked just one batter while striking out 34 in 40 1/3 innings this season.

Colon's bid for his 13th career shutout was broken up when Orioles third baseman Manny Machado -- who was 4 years old when Colon made his major league debut in 1997 -- homered to left with one out in the eighth. Machado was only the second Orioles player to get beyond second base.

After second baseman Jimmy Paredes flew out to the warning track in left, Colon was pulled for right-hander Carlos Torres, who got the final out of the eighth. Right-hander Jeurys Familia earned his 11th save despite allowing a leadoff homer to first baseman Chris Davis.

Second baseman Daniel Murphy had two hits, including a one-out RBI single in the fourth that ended the Mets' 21-inning scoreless streak. Two batters later, catcher Kevin Plawecki delivered a two-run double.

Orioles right-hander Bud Norris (1-3) took the loss after allowing the three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings.

Davis had two hits.

The Mets pieced together their runs in an 11-pitch span in the fourth. First baseman Lucas Duda delivered a leadoff double and scored on Murphy's single. Shortstop Wilmer Flores doubled and Plawecki followed with his run-scoring double.

NOTES: The Mets recalled C Johnny Monell from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned INF Eric Campbell to the same affiliate. Monell, who will be the third catcher on the Mets' roster, was hitting .397 with four homers and 15 RBIs with Las Vegas. ... Mets 3B David Wright, who has been on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring since April 15, might be ready to begin a rehab assignment this weekend. ... Orioles C Matt Wieters, who had Tommy John surgery last June, caught six innings in an extended spring training league game Tuesday. ... Orioles INF Steven Pearce, who left Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a stomach illness, did not start Tuesday but took swings before the game and was available off the bench.
