Orioles 9, A's 2

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Chris Davis hit a three-run homer and Caleb Joseph added a two-run shot, powering the Baltimore Orioles and rookie right-hander Tyler Wilson to a 9-2 victory over the Oakland A's on Monday night at the O.co Coliseum.

Wilson (2-1) was called up Monday from Triple-A Norfolk to start in place of right-hander Chris Tillman, who is recovering from a sprained left ankle. Making his second career start, Wilson allowed two runs and six hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked two and got 13 outs on ground balls.

Wilson earned his first big-league win as a starter. His initial major league win came out of the bullpen earlier this season against the Miami Marlins.

Before he threw his first pitch, Wilson had a 3-0 lead thanks to Davis' first-inning blast, the first baseman's 27th home run of the season. Joseph crushed a two-run homer in the fourth, making it 6-0. It was the catcher's ninth long ball of the year.

The Orioles pounded out 14 hits, and every starter except designated hitter Matt Wieters had at least one hit. Joseph went 2-for-4 with a double to go with his homer and career-high-matching three RBIs. Center fielder Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and scored a run. Second baseman Jonathan Schoop finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.

A's right-hander Jesse Chavez (5-11) lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, including two home runs. He lost for the fifth time in his past six decisions. Chavez gave up only five home runs through the end of June. Since then, he has allowed six over six starts.

Oakland left fielder Coco Crisp, who was activated from the 60-day disabled list before the game, had two hits and scored a run. Catcher Stephen Vogt ended his 0-for-28 skid, the second longest of his career, with a sixth-inning double. He added an RBI double in the eighth.

The Orioles grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Gerardo Parra and Jones hit back-to-singles with one out, and Davis brought them home with a towering home run into the right-center field seats.

With an 0-1 count, Chavez threw an 89 mph cutter that stayed up, and Davis made him pay for the mistake with his 27th home run of the season.

Baltimore extended its lead to 4-0 in the third as Parra worked a leadoff walk and scored on Jones' double off the right-center-field wall.

Joseph made it 6-0 in the fourth with a two-run blast, his ninth of the season. Schoop lined a one-out single, and Joseph launched an 89 mph cutter from Chavez into the left field seats.

The A's cut Baltimore's lead to 6-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Crisp grounded a one-out single and scored from second when first baseman Ike Davis blooped a single with two outs.

Baltimore answered with two runs in the fifth. Shortstop J.J. Hardy singled, and right fielder Jimmy Paredes doubled him home. Then Joseph ripped a double to left-center, driving in Paredes.
