Athletics 4, Tigers 0

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jesse Hahn threw his first career complete-game shutout, limiting Detroit to just four singles, as the Oakland Athletics beat the Tigers 4-0 to win a third straight game for the first time this season.

In losing a third straight to start a seven-game road trip, Detroit (26-20) advanced only one runner as far as third base and struck out five times against Hahn, who hadn't gone longer than 6 1/3 innings in his eight previous starts this year.

Oakland (17-30) committed three errors to increase its major-league-leading total to 49, but the Athletics also turned three double plays to bail out Hahn.

Oakland broke a scoreless game open by scoring four times in the sixth inning.

Shortstop Marcus Semien and right fielder Josh Reddick opened the frame with back-to-back singles off Detroit starter Shane Greene, giving the A's runners at first and third.

After a popout, Billy Butler was credited with an infield single when Tigers shortstop Dixon Machado fielded the designated hitter's grounder in the hole but was late with a throw to second. Semien scored on the play.

Third baseman Max Muncy banged a double to the gap in right-center to plate Reddick.

Rookie first baseman Mark Canha's sacrifice fly to center chased home Butler and left fielder Sam Fuld drove in Muncy with a double down the line in right. That signaled the end of Greene's day.

Each team had two hits through a scoreless five innings.

Detroit's biggest threat came in the fifth, when its first two batters reached. Right fielder Tyler Collins singled to center and moved to second when Semien failed to field a double-play grounder off the bat of third baseman Nick Castellanos.

Semien redeemed himself when catcher James McCann bounded into a 6-3 double play and Collins was stranded at third as first baseman Herman Perez bounced out to third.

The Athletics squandered a one-out triple in the fourth as Reddick hit a ball off the fence in right-center field. Catcher Stephen Vogt bounced out to second with the infield in and Butler lined softly to short.

Oakland stranded runners on first and second in the fifth when second baseman Eric Sogard struck out looking and center fielder Billy Burns popped to left.
