Mariners 4, Twins 1 (11 innings)
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Seattle Mariners scored three times in the 11th inning to win 4-1 over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Sunday afternoon.
Seattle got a pair of walks to leadoff the 11th against Minnesota right-hander Kevin Jepsen. Both eventually came around to score as Jepsen, seeing his first action in a Twins uniform since being acquired on Friday, took the loss, charged with two runs on two walks in one-third of an inning.
First baseman Logan Morrison doubled off Brian Duensing to drive in the first run of the 11th inning, and center fielder Austin Jackson added as two-run single off Casey Fien.
Tim Wilhelmsen worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning for his second save. Fernando Rodney, who pitched a scoreless 10th, got the win.
Each team's starting pitcher was lights out through eight innings but did not figure into the decision.
Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey held the Mariners off the board through eight, allowing just four hits, all singles, and walking one while striking out three.
Pelfrey handed closer Glen Perkins the ball to start the ninth in a scoreless game, but the struggling left-hander promptly surrendered a solo home run to Mariners right fielder Nelson Cruz.
WIth Hisashi Iwakuma still in the game for Seattle, the lead appeared safe.
Iwakuma, who has allowed just one hit to that point and had retired 13 straight Twins batters, got the first out in the ninth, but served up a solo homer to Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, tying the score at 1-1.
It was the first earned run surrendered to the Twins by Iwakuma, a span covering 41 2/3 innings and six starts.
Iwakuma lasted two more batters, exiting the game after allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in 8 2/3 innings, striking out a season-high eight batters.
Minnesota got leadoff walk in the 10th inning, eventually getting him to second base with two outs, but catcher Kurt Suzuki lined out to center field to end the threat.
