Rangers 15, Yankees 4

NEW YORK -- Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo drove in four runs during a 10-run third inning as the Texas Rangers rolled to a 15-4 rout of the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Choo started the inning with an RBI single and finished the inning with a three-run home run.

Designated hitter Prince Fielder added an RBI single in the third and homered in the seventh.

In the third, shortstop Elvis Andrus added a two-run single, catcher Carlos Corporan had a run-scoring double and left fielder Jake Smolinski lifted a sacrifice fly for Texas, which is 12-for-18 and has scored 17 times in the third inning during its last two games.

Every starter had at least one hit, and first baseman Mitch Moreland was the only starter who did not score. Texas had 15 hits, went 8-for-14 with runners in scoring position and 12-for-25 with men on base.

Right-hander Nick Martinez (4-0) took a shutout into the sixth before allowing a home run to right fielder Carlos Beltran. Martinez also allowed a solo home run to shortstop Didi Gregorius in the seventh and gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings.

While the Rangers (20-23) won for the 10th time in their last 13 road games, the Yankees (22-21) dropped their season-high fifth straight game and fell to 1-9 in their last 10 games after winning 18 of their previous 24.

Left-hander CC Sabathia (2-6) had won two straight starts but was torched for six runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. That was slightly better than reliever Esmil Rogers, who gave up seven runs and four hits in three innings.

Things were so bad for the Yankees that Garrett Jones wound up moving from first base to the mound and recorded the final two outs of the ninth.

After a seven-run inning off Michael Pineda on Friday, the Rangers had an even bigger inning Saturday that was aided by shoddy defense by the Yankees.

Smolinski opened the inning with a walk and reached second on an infield single by center fielder Delino DeShields. That came after Gregorius tried to make a behind-the-back throw to second baseman Stephen Drew instead of stepping on second for the forceout.

Singles by Choo and Fielder made it 3-0. Fielder wound up on second when Beltran did not put his glove to the ground and the ball went through his legs, allowing Choo to score.

With runners on first and second and one out, Sabathia was charged with a wild pitch when catcher John Ryan Murphy was unable to find the ball. On the next pitch, Andrus lined a single up the middle that easily scored both runners.

After knocking out Sabathia, the Rangers added two more runs on a double by Corporan and a sacrifice fly by Smolinski. They extended the lead to 10-0 on Choo's homer down the left line.

Texas added three in the sixth. Choo made it 11-0 by scoring on a wild pitch. Andrus lifted a sacrifice fly and second baseman Adam Rosales added an RBI single.

The Rangers made it 15-1 when Fielder hit his third home run of the series with two outs in the seventh.
