A's 3, Yankees 0

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jesse Chavez threw eight shutout innings, and Stephen Vogt hit a two run homer and drove in three runs, leading the Oakland A's to a 3-0 victory against the New York Yankees on Sunday at the O.co Coliseum.

The A's took three of four games from the Yankees and won a series at home for the first time this season after six losses and a split.

Chavez (2-5) allowed seven hits, struck out six and walked none. The right-hander threw a career-high 110 pitches and matched his career high for innings pitched. Chavez won only one of his first seven starts, but he received an average of just 1.20 runs of support per game, the lowest in the majors dating to April 23 when he made his first start.

A's right-hander Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his seventh save.

Vogt hit his team-high 11th home run and raised his team-high RBI total to 38.

Chavez and Yankees right-hander Adam Warren matched zeros until the bottom of the sixth, when Vogt hit his two-run shot, giving the A's a 2-0 lead.

A's center fielder Billy Burns, who went 3-for-4 and scored twice, led off the inning with a soft single to center then stole second and third base.

With one out, Warren threw Vogt a 1-1 fastball, and the catcher hit a towering fly ball that kept carrying over the right field fence.

The A's made it 3-0 with a run in the eighth. Burns hit a one-out single and moved to third on left fielder Ben Zobrist's single to right. Vogt brought Burns home with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Warren (3-4) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one.
