Diamondbacks 11, Padres 0

PHOENIX -- Arizona catcher Tuffy Gosewisch had three doubles and a career-high four RBIs, and Paul Goldschmidt and Mark Trumbo homered to lead the Diamondbacks to an 11-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday at Chase Field.

Gosewisch, who did not have an extra-base hit in 72 at-bats this season, doubled home runs in the first and third innings and added a two-run double in the fifth as the Diamondbacks (13-14) won their third straight.

Goldschmidt hit his eighth homer in the third inning. The first baseman added an RBI double in the sixth to back right-hander Rubby De La Rosa (3-2), who gave up three hits and struck out seven in seven scoreless innings.

Trumbo, the D-backs' right fielder, homered for the first run in a four-run first inning off San Diego right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne (2-1), who gave up a career-high eight runs and 10 hits in five innings.

Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta had his first career four-hit game, and third baseman Yasmany Tomas had three hits. Trumbo and second baseman Chris Owings had two hits apiece.

Arizona has 29 runs and 48 hits in three games since being rained out Monday and Tuesday in Colorado. The Diamondbacks finished with 17 hits Thursday after getting a season-high 19 in the opener of a doubleheader Wednesday.

San Diego (15-15) lost for the third time in four games, all by shutout.

Third baseman Yangervis Solarte and catcher Derek Norris had doubles for the Padres, who led the NL with 140 runs entering the game.

Trumbo homered in the first inning before the Diamondbacks bunched four two-out hits to score three more runs. Peralta and Tomas singled, and Peralta scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Owings singled in Tomas, and Gosewisch's looping double brought in Owings to make it 4-0. Tomas and Despaigne were teammates for five years on the Cuban League team Industriales.

Goldschmidt led off the third inning with a homer before Peralta doubled and scored on Gosewisch's double to deep center field. It was 6-0.

Gosewisch drove in two runs to make it 8-0 with his third double in the fifth inning, after Tomas singled and Owings walked with two out.

San Diego first baseman Yonder Alonso was removed from the game with an apparent shoulder injury after landing awkwardly while fielding a ground ball in the eighth inning.
