Cardinals 3, Diamondbacks 2 (10 innings

ST. LOUIS -- Shortstop Jhonny Peralta led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a homer, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium on Monday.

Peralta hit a 1-2 pitch from reliever J.C. Ramirez (1-1) over the wall in left for his seventh homer of the year and his fourth career walkoff blast.

Closer Trevor Rosenthal (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings, working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 10th by fanning second baseman Chris Owings and getting a grounder from catcher Tuffy Gosewisch.

St. Louis improved to 29-16 in the opener of a nine-game homestand, while Arizona (21-23) lost for just the second time in eight games.

St. Louis initiated scoring in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice grounder by first baseman Matt Adams. It scored second baseman Kolten Wong, who led off with a double and reached third on a single by third baseman Matt Carpenter.

Right fielder Jason Heyward upped the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 in the fourth with a two-out RBI single off the glove of shortstop Nick Ahmed, plating Adams.

St. Louis starter Carlos Martinez tied a career high with eight strikeouts over seven scoreless innings, his second straight outing in which he has not allowed a run. Martinez gave up just five hits and walked two in a 97-pitch effort.

But Arizona evened the score off reliever Kevin Siegrist in the eighth as right fielder Mark Trumbo lined a 416-foot homer over the center-field wall, his seventh of the year. It scored center fielder Ender Inciarte, who led off with a single.

The Diamondbacks missed on a chance to take the lead later in the eighth as Siegrist walked first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and right fielder David Peralta before being hooked. Reliever Seth Maness ended the threat with a flyout, sacrifice bunt and strikeout, stranding both runners in scoring position.

Arizona starter Chase Anderson scattered 10 hits over six innings, allowing two runs. Anderson walked one and fanned four.
