Diamondbacks 7, Brewers 5
MILWAUKEE -- Nick Ahmed's eighth-inning home run snapped a tie game and gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 7-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night at Miller Park.
Ahmed's homer, off Brewers right-hander Jonathan Broxton (1-2), was his third of the season and one of four hit Friday by the Diamondbacks, who came into the game with at least one in each of their last six games.
Right fielder Endier Inciarte and left fielder David Peralta hit solo shots, both in the third inning off Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson and center fielder A.J. Pollock's two-run shot in the ninth off right-hander Corey Knebel offered some breathing room for right-hander Brad Ziegler, who gave up a run but recorded his third save of the season.
Milwaukee squandered a golden opportunity in the seventh, loading the bases with one out but failing to score. The Brewers 1-for-8 with runners in scoring positing and stranded 10.
Nelson battled through six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out eight.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles, but Milwaukee tied the game in the bottom of the inning when center fielder Carlos Gomez led off with his fifth home run of the season.
The Brewers stranded the go-ahead run at second with nobody out in the second. Solo home runs by Inciarte and Peralta made it a 3-1 game in the third.
Milwaukee again evened things out in the bottom of the frame.
Right fielder Ryan Braun drew a one-out walk and stole second before first baseman Adam Lind's home run made it a 3-3 game.
Goldschmidt notched his second double of the game to lead off the fifth and put the Diamondbacks ahead when he scored on Yasmany Tomas' groundout.
The Brewers came back and tied the game one more time, drawing even when Lind drove in Braun on a two-out RBI double.
