Diamondbacks 13, Phillies 1
PHOENIX -- Left fielder David Peralta hit a grand slam in an 11-run second inning and second baseman Aaron Hill also homered in the frame in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 13-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field on Tuesday.
Shortstop Chris Owings had two doubles in the second inning and Hill, right fielder Yasmany Tomas and right-hander Jeremy Hellickson also had two hits in the frame. All were off right-hander David Buchanan (2-7).
Peralta had five RBIs, also singling in a run in the fifth inning, and Hellickson (8-8) had three RBIs.
Hill and center fielder A.J. Pollock had three hits, and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia had his fourth homer as the Diamondbacks (56-56) reached .500 for the second time since April 24. They were 42-42 on July 8.
Second baseman Chase Utley and catcher Cameron Rupp had two hits for the Phillies (45-69), who have been outscored 26-4 in the first two games of the series.
The Phillies are 16-7 since the All-Star break, tied with St. Louis for the best record in the NL.
Owings drove in two with a bases-loaded double to start the scoring in the second inning and Hellickson followed with a two-run single before Peralta cleared the bases with his 11th homer of the season. It was 8-1.
Hill hit his fifth homer later in the inning, and Saltalamacchia homered in the sixth.
Hellickson gave up one unearned run and seven hits in eight innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco, a top National League Rookie of the Year candidate, was hit in the left wrist by a pitch with two outs in the first inning and forced to leave the game. X-rays were negative, the Phillies said, and the injury was called a contusion.
Andres Blanco, who ran for Franco, scored after first baseman Ryan Howard singled and Tomas committed a fielding error. Tomas was removed in the third inning with tightness in his left calf.
Nine of the first 10 batters reached base against Buchanan in the second inning, when the Diamondbacks recorded five singles, three doubles, two homers and two walks. Hellickson's two hits tied Edwin Jackson's franchise record for hits in an inning.
Buchanan, who retired two of the 14 batters he faced in the second, was replaced after Hellickson's second single made it 11-1. Buchanan has given up 49 earned runs in 49 innings in 10 starts this season.
