Braves 4, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE -- A.J. Pierzynski had three hits, including his sixth home run of the season, and Manny Banuelos earned his first career victory as the Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 Tuesday night Miller Park.

Catcher Pierzynski also drove in the Braves' first two runs Tuesday and has 10 hits in 13 at-bats over his last three games. His 3-for-4 effort against Milwaukee helped pick up the left-handed Banuelos (1-0), who allowed five hits and walked three but was charged with only one run in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Brewers right-hander Tyler Cravy (0-2), making his second major league start, went six innings and allowed three Atlanta runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three.

The Braves led 3-1 before adding an insurance run in the seventh when Nick Markakis drove in Jace Peterson with a single to right.

Milwaukee made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the inning on Shane Peterson's pinch-hit RBI double, but with runners at the corners and two outs, right-hander David Carpenter struck out right fielder Ryan Braun to preserve the lead.

First baseman Adam Lind homered in the eighth, a solo shot to put the Brewers within a run.

Right-hander Jason Grilli worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save of the season.

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy's second home run of the season -- and first since June 5 -- gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Cravy struck out three of the first five batters he faced but gave up a solo shot to Pierzynski in the second, tying the game at 1-1.

Pierzynski put the Braves ahead in the fourth, dropping a two-out RBI single into shallow left that scored first baseman Kelly Johnson.

Center fielder Cameron Maybin drove in another run in the fifth with a triple to right, putting the Braves up. 3-1.

NOTES: Atlanta optioned OF Joey Terdoslavich and recalled RHP Mike Foltynewicz from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Foltynewicz will provide some insurance in the Braves' bullpen, especially heading into a weekend series at Colorado, and could remain with the team after the All-Star break. ... The Brewers activated OF Khris Davis from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and he was in the starting lineup against the Braves. But manager Craig Counsell said Gerardo Parra would get "the bulk" of starts in left for the time being. Parra is batting .338 since April 25, the third-best mark in the National League during that stretch. He also has six consecutive multi-hit games. ... To make room for Davis on the Brewers' roster, RHP David Goforth was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
