Cardinals 2, Reds 2, susp. 8 innings
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds-St. Louis Cardinals game was suspended in the eighth inning because of rain on Friday night with the score tied 2-2.
The game will resume at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Great American Ball Park before the regularly scheduled game.
Center fielder Billy Hamilton's speed helped put the Reds ahead in the first inning.
After reaching on a bunt single, Hamilton stole his major league-leading 55th base to improve to 9-for-9 in stolen-base attempts against Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.
Molina's throw sailed into center, allowing Hamilton to advance to third, and he scored moments later on a groundout to make it 1-0.
St. Louis tied the score 1-1 in the second on left-hander John Lackey's groundout.
But catcher Ramon Cabrera's first career homer on a line drive into the visitors' bullpen in right put Cincinnati ahead 2-1 in the bottom half of the second.
Cardinals second baseman Greg Garcia's second career homer tied the score 2-2 in the fourth. He last homered on June 26.
Cincinnati had runners on second and third in the fifth, but Lackey fanned third baseman Todd Frazier to end the threat.
NOTES: Reds 1B Joey Votto received a two-game suspension from Major League Baseball resulting from his ejection by home plate umpire Bill Welke in Wednesday night's game. The suspension was to begin Friday, but Votto appealed. ... The Cardinals recalled C Ed Easley from Triple-A Memphis. It's his second stint with St. Louis this year. ... The Cardinals' starting rotation owns an 8.01 ERA in its past five games, pitching past the fifth inning only twice. ... The Reds' 11 runs in Thursday night's win were the most they've scored in a shutout against the Cardinals since a 12-0 victory on June 4, 1971.
