MIAMI –- Catcher J.T. Realmuto snapped a scoreless tie with a seventh-inning RBI triple to lead the Miami Marlins to a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Marlins Park.
Marlins third baseman Derek Dietrich started the winning rally with a one-out infield single, snapping a streak of nine consecutive batters retired by Phillies rookie right-hander Alec Asher.
Realmuto followed on the next pitch with an inside-out swing, driving the ball to right-center field, where it reached the wall on a bounce.
Realmuto then tried to score from third on a fly ball to right field by shortstop Miguel Rojas. But Brian Bogusevic's strong throw cut down Realmuto on a close play at the plate.
Asher was looking for his first big-league win, but he fell to 0-5 despite pitching brilliantly. He lasted seven innings, allowing just three hits and one walk, striking out four. Entering the seventh, he had allowed just one single and the one walk.
He lowered his ERA from 9.78 to 7.52, and he also got the first two hits of his big-league career, a single and a double. He went 2-for-2 and raised his batting average from .000 to .333 after six at-bats.
Marlins starter Jarred Cosart matched Asher with zeroes every inning until he was struck by a line drive off the bat of Phillies third baseman Cody Asche, who got a single on the fourth-inning play. Cosart, who was hit on the left forearm, finished the inning before leaving the game.
The Marlins' bullpen, though, pitched scoreless baseball in his absence. A.J. Ramos earned his 29th save.
Cosart, who won 13 games last year, got a no-decision and is still 2-4. He has missed more than three months this season due to an inner-ear disorder.
Meanwhile, Marlins third baseman Martin Prado, who had missed five straight games due to a wrist injury, entered the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning.
