Brewers 4, Mets 1

MILWAUKEE -- Scooter Gennett homered, Adam Lind hit an RBI double and Jimmy Nelson allowed only two hits over eight innings as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the New York Mets, 4-1, Wednesday night at Miller Park.

Nelson's eight-inning effort tied his career high, set earlier this season against the Tigers. Nelson (4-8) threw 102 pitches and walked just one batter while recording five strikeouts.

Right-hander Francisco Rodriguez took over in the ninth and worked around a two-out double by second baseman Ruben Tejada to earn his 15th save in as many chances this season.

Lind, along with right fielder Ryan Braun and catcher Jonathan Lucroy, finished with two hits on the day.

Genett's home run, his third of the season, came in the sixth inning off right-hander Bartolo Colon (9-6), who allowed four runs on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings of work.

The Mets have lost a season-high seven straight and fell to a game below .500 for the first time since they were 2-3 on April 11.

Colon quickly found himself in a jam, giving up four straight hits to open the fourth inning. Milwaukee went up, 2-0, on an RBI single by right fielder Ryan Braun and an RBI double by first baseman Adam Lind.

But both were left stranded as Colon regrouped and retired nine of the next 10 batters. He stranded runners at the corners in the fourth but three straight singles in the fifth let the Brewers go up 3-1.

The Mets got on the board in the fourth inning when right fielder Curtis Granderson homered for the second consecutive day.

NOTES: Mets 3B Daniel Murphy went 1-for-1 with a walk Wednesday in a rehab game with the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets. Murphy has been sidelined since June 5 with a strained left quad. ... Mets manager Terry Collins gave some of his regulars a day off. OF Michael Cuddyer, INF Dilson Herrera and C Kevin Plawecki all got a break Wednesday and will be back in the lineup Thursday for the series finale at Milwaukee. ... Brewers LHP Will Smith has not allowed a run in 28 of his 32 appearances this season, including his last 13 in a row. Smith has held opponents to a .158 average on the season while striking out 36 in 26 2/3 innings of work but will continue working out of the bullpen for the time being, manager Craig Counsell said.
