Mets 7, Phillies 0

NEW YORK -- Rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard did it all in his fourth major-league start Wednesday, throwing 7 1/3 shutout innings and delivering three hits, including a long homer, in the New York Mets' 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.

The Mets (27-21) scored once in the first inning, three times in the third and once apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth in sweeping a three-game series from the Phillies (19-30) at Citi Field for the second time this season. New York also swept the Phillies from April 13 to April 15.

On the mound, Syndergaard (2-2) allowed six hits and walked none while striking out six in pitching beyond the sixth inning for the first time as a big-leaguer. He allowed just two runners to get into scoring position.

At the plate, Syndergaard -- who came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in his final start for Triple-A Las Vegas on May 7 -- singled in the first and sixth and hit a one-out homer in the fourth. After the homer, he was serenaded with chants of “No-ah” by the crowd of 24,406 (he didn't take a curtain call).

First baseman Lucas Duda hit solo homers in the first and fifth for his second two-homer game in the last six days. He finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Left fielder Michael Cuddyer had two hits, including a two-run homer in the third, while second baseman Daniel Murphy had three hits, including an RBI single in the third.

Left fielder Ben Revere and right fielder Grady Sizemore had two hits apiece for the Phillies, who have lost six of seven.

Right-hander Sean O'Sullivan absorbed a beating for the Phillies, whose relievers had thrown 8 2/3 innings the previous two games. O'Sullivan allowed all seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out two over 5 2/3 innings.

NOTES: Mets manager Terry Collins, the oldest skipper in the game, turned 66. He is 7-4 as a manager on his birthday. ... Mets RHP Vic Black (right shoulder tendinitis, neck herniation) threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, his third scoreless frame for Binghamton in the last four days. Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said Black is ready to return to the big leagues. ... The Phillies have lost seven straight series to the Mets, the most in franchise history. Philadelphia lost six straight series against New York during the 1971-72 seasons. ... Phillies 2B Chase Utley has five two-hit games in his last eight games. He had just two multi-hit efforts in his first 36 games.
