Philies 4, Padres 2

SAN DIEGO -- Rookie left-hander Adam Morgan held the Padres to two runs over six innings and center fielder Odubel Herrera drove in two runs and scored one on a wild pitch Saturday night to lead Philadelphia to a second straight win over the Padres at Petco Park.

Chase Utley had two doubles and scored two runs for the Phillies in his second game back from the disabled list while shortstop Cesar Hernandez had two hits including a RBI triple in the Phillies' 4-2 win.

Only one of the two runs charged against Morgan was earned. He allowed six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Tyson Ross (8-9) suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings and retired the last 14 Phillies he faced.

Ross, who doubled in his first two at-bats, also popped out on a bunt attempt in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second with none out when the Padres were trailing 3-2.

Right-hander Ken Giles picked up his fifth save for the Phillies, who are 15-5 since the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, the Padres lost for the fifth straight time.

The Phillies used their speed to build a 3-0 lead after three innings while left-handed starter Adam Morgan retired the first nine Padres.

Utley opened the game with a double, moved to third base on Hernandez's groundout to right and scored on Herrera's single.

Herrera then stole second, raced to third after Padres shortstop Alexi Amarista threw out Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco at first and scored on a wild pitch by Ross.

In the third, Hernandez singled with one out and stole second ahead of Herrera's second RBI single. Herrera stole second for the second time, although Ross got out of the inning by striking out Franco and first baseman Ryan Howard.

After going down in order in three straight innings, the Padres opened the fourth with three straight singles, although a running blunder by catcher Derek Norris possibly prevented a bigger inning.

Third baseman Yangervis Solarte led off with a single and raced to third on Norris' hit to right-center. Right fielder Matt Kemp followed with a single to center, driving in Solarte with the Padres' first run.

When Herrera bobbled the ball in center, Norris tried to advance to third and was easily thrown out. Left fielder Justin Upton drew a walk to put two runners on, but Morgan retired second baseman Jedd Gyorko on a fly to the warning track in center and got first baseman Yonder Alonso on a grounder to second to end the inning.

Starting with the strikeout of Franco, Ross retired 11 straight Phillies. He also hit a double in the fifth.
