Kim's first homer lifts Orioles over Indians

CLEVELAND -- Hyun Soo Kim's first major league home run broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Cleveland Indians 6-4 Sunday at Progressive Field.

Kim sent a two-out, 2-2 pitch from Jeff Manship (0-1) into the seats in right field for his first career home run.

Reliever Zach Britton pitched the ninth to earn his 14th save. Three of the Indians' eight hits, and all of their runs, came on home runs by Carlos Santana, Mike Napoli and Jason Kipnis.

But Cleveland couldn't get the big hit in a crucial eighth inning rally. Trailing 5-4, the Indians had the bases loaded with one out but were unable to score.

Reliever Darren O'Day struck out pinch hitter Lonnie Chisenhall and Yan Gomes to end the inning.

Nolan Reimold's home run in the ninth off Tommy Hunter made it 6-4, and Mark Trumbo added a three-run double in the first inning.

Rookie right-hander Mike Clevinger started for Cleveland and he was in trouble immediately. Adam Jones led off the game with a walk. Kim struck out, but Manny Machado's single moved Jones to second. Chris Davis drew a walk to load the bases.

Trumbo followed with a double off the left field wall, scoring all three runners and giving Baltimore a 3-0 lead.

Clevinger held the Orioles scoreless in the second and third innings but in the fourth Baltimore stretched its lead to 4-0. Jonathan Schoop led off with a double to left field. He went to third on a flyout to center by Reimold, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Flaherty.

Orioles starter Chris Tillman (7-1) held Cleveland scoreless and hitless through the first three innings, but Santana led off the fourth inning with a home run to right field, cutting the Baltimore lead to 4-1.

After Kipnis flied out, Francisco Lindor drew a walk, then rode home on a two-run homer by Napoli, and the Orioles' lead was down to 4-3. The Indians tied it at 4 when Kipnis led off the sixth inning with a home run into the right field seats.

Tillman pitched six innings, giving up four runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.

Clevinger, making his third start after being called up from Triple-A Columbus, was removed from the game after the fourth inning. He gave up four runs on four hits, with four strikeouts and three walks.

Dan Otero relieved Clevinger, and Otero pitched two scoreless innings. Manship relieved Otero to start the seventh inning, and after retiring the first two hitters Kim ripped a line drive into the right field seats, giving Baltimore a 4-3 lead.
