Saladino helps White Sox snap skid vs. Mets
NEW YORK - Tyler Saladino reached base in all four plate appearances Tuesday night and hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Chicago White Sox snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the New York Mets at Citi Field.
The White Sox (28-25) came back from a 4-0 deficit to win for just the fourth time in their last 20 games. The Mets (29-22) have lost three of four.
The White Sox only had two runners advance as far as second base in the first five innings against Mets left-hander Steven Matz. But Jose Abreu led off the sixth with a walk and Todd Frazier, whose two errors earlier in the game led to a pair of unearned runs, followed with a two-run homer to cut the gap in half.
With two outs, Saladino walked, stole second and third and scored on a single by Dioner Navarro.
Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard, pitching in relief because he threw just 34 pitches before being ejected in his start Saturday night, threw a hitless seventh.
Melky Cabrera opened the eight by drawing a walk off Hansel Robles (0-3). One out later, Saladino hit a long two-run homer to left.
The White Sox added an insurance run with two outs, when pinch-hitter Jimmy Rollins walked, stole second and scored on Brett Lawrie's single.
Dan Jennings (2-1) earned the win for the White Sox with a one-hit seventh. David Robertson notched his 13th save with a perfect ninth.
For the Mets, Yoenis Cespedes and Curtis Granderson had sacrifice flies in the first and second while Neil Walker went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the third.
White Sox starter Mat Latos allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings.
Matz's seven-start winning streak was snapped after he allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over 5 2/3 innings.
