Rangers 8, Tigers 3

DETROIT -- Bobby Wilson hit his first career grand slam and Delino DeShields capped a seven-run eighth inning by following with a solo shot Sunday to give the Texas Rangers an 8-3, comeback victory over the Detroit Tigers, who have now lost six straight.

Justin Verlander turned a 2-0 lead over to Detroit's bullpen to open the eighth, blanking the Rangers on three hits, nine strikeouts and two walks in his seven innings of work.

Left-handed hitters Rougned Odor and Nomar Mazara singled on consecutive offerings by southpaw Justin Wilson to open the eighth, and right-hander Mark Lowe was greeted by an RBI single to center off the bat of Adrian Beltre to cut Detroit's lead to 2-1.

Prince Fielder advanced both runners with a high chopper to first, and Ian Desmond got the tying run home with a sacrifice fly to right.

An intentional walk and hit batter loaded the bases and brought up Wilson, who played for Detroit until being traded back to Texas on May 3. Lowe's 0-1 pitch was lined over the fence in left-center for his first home run this year and first grand slam. DeShields hit Lowe's next pitch just to the right of Wilson's blast for his second home run of the season.

Justin Wilson faced two batters and both scored, but the loss went to Lowe (1-1), who gave up five runs and three hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Texas added a run in the ninth off Francisco Rodriguez on a double by Desmond and Mitch Moreland's RBI single to right center.

Tom Wilhelmsen (2-2) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh in relief of starter Martin Perez to pick up the win. Sam Dyson pitched the eighth and newly recalled lefty Alex Claudio worked the ninth. A double by Jose Iglesias, a flyout by Ian Kinsler and a groundout to third by J.D. Martinez scored Detroit's final run in the ninth.

Perez held Detroit to one baserunner, a walk, in the first two innings and retired the first two in the third before getting into trouble.

Kinsler singled to left-center, J.D. Martinez walked and Miguel Cabrera unleashed an RBI ground-rule double to right that bounced into the stands on one hop. Victor Martinez walked on four pitches to load the bases and Justin Upton walked on a 3-2 pitch to force in a second run.

Verlander gave up a leadoff ground single to right by Elvis Andrus to open the Texas third, and he went to third on a bloop hit-and-run single right to the spot vacated by Kinsler when he went to cover second. Verlander kept Texas from scoring with two strikeouts and a flyout.
