Diamondbacks halt skid with rout of Yankees
PHOENIX -- Jake Lamb had three hits, including a homer, and Paul Goldschmidt homered when the Arizona Diamondbacks broke a five-game losing streak with a 12-2 victory over the New York Yankees at Chase Field on Monday.
Lamb's three-run homer, his fifth homer of the season, broke a tie at 2 off right-hander Chad Green (0-1), who was making his major league debut. Lamb was a triple short of the cycle.
Arizona left-hander Robbie Ray (2-2) gave up two runs in seven innings. He struck out six and walked one, intentionally. Ray also collected his first major league RBI with a single to cap the five-run fifth-inning rally.
Jean Segura had two hits and three RBIs, Chris Herrmann had two hits and two RBIs and Nick Ahmed had two doubles and an RBI for Arizona (18-23), which scored 10 runs in its last four innings.
Mark Teixeira had three hits and scored a run for the Yankees (16-21), who had won three of four.
Jacoby Ellsbury tripled and scored and Chase Headley had an RBI single for the Yankees. Headley has reached base in eight straight games.
Center fielder Michael Bourn singled, walked and scored twice in his Arizona debut. Bourn was purchased from Double-A Mobile on Sunday.
Green gave up eight hits and six runs (four earned) in four-plus innings.
Goldschmidt homered in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, and Herrmann singled, stole second and scored on Segura's hustle double to center field to make it 2-0 in the second inning.
The Yankees scored one in the fourth inning but threatened more. Teixeira doubled, took third on Carlos Beltran's single and scored on Chase Headley's single. The runners advanced on Aaron Hicks' fly to the fence in center field but Ray got out of the inning on a pop out, an intentional walk and a strikeout.
Ellsbury tripled to lead off the fifth and scored when the relay throw bounced off his helmet and into the stands to tie it at 2.
Lamb's three-run homer followed an error and walk in the five-run fifth inning. Yasmany Tomas and Nick Ahmed had doubles, and Ray drove in the final run with a two-out single, his first career RBI. It was 7-2.
