Diamondbacks shut out Rays behind Greinke three-hitter
PHOENIX -- Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt homered and right-hander Zack Greinke threw his fifth career shutout to help the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday at Chase Field.
Lamb's three-run homer in the fourth inning off left-hander Matt Moore (2-4) broke a scoreless tie, and Goldschmidt's two-run homer in the sixth inning gave Greinke plenty of cushion.
Grenke (8-3) gave up three hits, all singles, and struck out two in winning his fifth straight start. He walked two and did not allow a runner past first base while extending his scoreless innings streak to 16.
Five of Greinke's last six victories have come after Arizona losses. He needed only 104 pitches while dropping his ERA to a season-low 3.84.
Desmond Jennings, Logan Morrison and Hank Conger had hits for the Rays (26-31), who had a four-game winning streak broken. The Rays did not have a hit after Conger's single in the fifth inning.
Goldschmidt also doubled and singled, and Welington Castillo had two hits as the Diamondbacks (26-35) won their second in three games.
Goldschmidt has reached base in 13 straight games, hitting .386 with three homers and 11 RBIs in that stretch.
Lamb has five homers in his last 38 at-bats.
Greinke's last shutout came July 13, 2013, when gave up two hits and struck out nine in a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies while with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Moore gave up seven hits and five runs in seven innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Goldschmidt doubled and Castillo singled to put runners on the corners with one out in the fourth inning before Brandon Drury struck out swinging. Arizona manager Chip Hale was ejected by plate umpire Mark Ripperger after arguing the call, his first ejection this season and the third of his two-year career.
Two pitches later, Lamb hit an opposite-field homer that bounced off the top of the left field fence and into the stands for a 3-0 lead. Three of his 11 homers have come against left-handers.
Goldschmidt's two-run homer gave Arizona a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning.
