Carter, Braun lead Brewers' rally past Reds
MILWAUKEE -- Chris Carter hit his 38th home run of the season and Ryan Braun hit a two-run single in the seventh as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Friday night at Miller Park.
Reds right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (8-5) worked six innings and allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.
Jose Peraza had two hits for Cincinnati, including a three-run home run in the fifth that put the Reds up, 3-1.
The lead disappeared quickly in the seventh as DeSclafani allowed a leadoff double to Andrew Susac then walked pinch-hitter Josmil Pinto and third baseman Jonathan Villar, bringing his day to an end.
Tony Cingrani came on in relief and tied the game by walking Scooter Gennett. He gave way to Blake Wood, who hung an 0-1 slider that Braun ripped up the middle to make it a 5-3 game.
Eugenio Suarez capped off a two-hit day with a double to open the ninth. He scored on a Tucker Barnhart groundout to make it a one-run game by Tyler Thornburg slammed the door for his 13th save.
Zach Davies lasted five innings for Milwaukee, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three.
With runners at first and second with nobody out in the first, Chris Carter bailed Davies out of a jam, snaring Joey Votto's line drive behind the bag. Carter stepped on first to double up Scott Schebler then fired to second before Jose Peraza could tag up, ending the inning with Milwaukee's second triple play of the season.
Carter came through again in the second, leading off the inning with his career-high 38th home run of the season.
Davies battled through his next three innings but allowed back-to-back singles to open the fifth and after DeSclafani advanced both runners on a sac bunt, Peraza put the Reds in front by blasting a 1-0 offering to left-center.
