Gonzalez, Chatwood lead surging Rockies past Mets

NEW YORK -- Carlos Gonzalez finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs Friday night as the Colorado Rockies remained red-hot with a 6-1 win over the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Gonzalez opened the scoring and extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double in the first and provided the Rockies plenty of insurance in the ninth with a long three-run homer.

Nick Hundley delivered a tie-breaking RBI single in the sixth while Mark Reynolds hit a solo homer in the eighth for the Rockies (51-52), who have won 11 of 15 since the All-Star Break. Charlie Blackmon finished 4-for-5 for Colorado, which has not been .500 after the All-Star Break since its last winning season in 2010.

James Loney went 2-for-4 with a second-inning homer for the Mets (53-49), who have lost three straight and four of five, a stretch in which they have scored just 11 runs.

Tyler Chatwood (10-6) earned the win for the Rockies by allowing the one run on three hits and four walks while striking out four over seven innings.

It was the longest start since June 6 for Chatwood, who retired 15 of the final 17 batters he faced after the Mets loaded the bases with two outs in the second.

The Mets threatened in the eighth against left-hander Jake McGee, who gave up singles to left-handed hitters Alejandro De Aza and Curtis Granderson. But Scott Oberg rescued McGee for a second straight game by retiring the Mets 2-3-4 hitters Travis d'Arnaud Yoenis Cespedes and Loney on one pitch apiece. d' Arnaud hit into a fielder's choice, Cespedes popped out and Loney grounded out.

On Thursday, Oberg inherited a bases loaded, none-out situation from McGee in the seventh inning and retired the next three batters to keep the Rockies down 1-0 in a game they would win 2-1.

Left-hander Steven Matz (9-7) took the loss after allowing two runs on a season-high 10 hits in six innings. He walked one while striking out five over six innings.

NOTES: The Mets placed CF Juan Lagares (sprained left thumb) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled OF Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas.
