Puig helps power Dodgers past Padres
Yasiel Puig hit a three-run homer in his second game since returning from the minors, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 7-4 Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles took two of three in the weekend series. The Dodgers (76-60) hold a three-game lead in the National League West over the Giants after San Francisco (73-63) fell to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
Puig went 1-for-2 with two walks, making him 3-for-6 since he came back from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Yasmani Grandal broke a 4-4 tie with a single that scored Puig in the fifth inning. He added a two-run homer in the seventh, again knocking in Puig, for the final margin.
Dodgers starter Jose De Leon (1-0) got the win in his major league debut, throwing six innings of four-run ball. He gave up six hits and no walks while striking out nine.
Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 41st save.
Padres reliever Kevin Quackenbush (7-5) didn't retire any of the three batters he faced after entering in the fifth inning. San Diego starter Christian Friedrich was charged with four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
San Diego third baseman Yangervis Solarte hit a two-run homer and finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Travis Jankowski added two hits and two runs for the Padres (56-80).
Los Angeles out-hit San Diego 9-8.
