Brewers 1, Padres 0
MILWAUKEE -- Junior Guerra spun six shutout innings and slumping first baseman Chris Carter's first-inning sacrifice fly led the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Miller Park.
Making just his third major league start, Guerra (2-0) scattered two hits and walked only two batters while striking out four. He also had his first major league hit, singling in the third against right-hander Christian Friedrich.
Friedrich (0-1) went six innings, allowing just the run and four hits with six walks was while striking out four after being called up earlier in the day to replace Andrew Cashner.
But the San Diego offense couldn't muster anything against Guerra, only putting a runner in scoring position twice in those first six innings, then managed one hit in the final three against Milwaukee relievers Michael Blazek, Tyler Thornburg and Jeremy Jeffress, who picked up his ninth save in as many chances this season.
