Anderson Silva: ‘I Respect Chris Weidman. I Respect my Opponent’

Former long-time UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva says fans will see the best version of “The Spider” at UFC 168 in December, where he looks to avenge an embarrassing knockout loss to reigning champion Chris Weidman.

"The new Anderson is coming," Silva boasted in an appearance on Sirius XM’s “Fight Club” radio show.

It’s hard to imagine the “new Anderson” being any better than the old one, as the hard-hitting Brazilian entered his UFC 162 matchup with Weidman boasting 17 straight victories, 10 of which where UFC title defenses (a divisional record for the company).

The 38-fight veteran also scoffed at the notion he lost his belt last month because he didn’t take “The All-American” seriously inside the cage.

"I don't disrespect my opponents," Silva said. "This is my strategy, my style of fight. People say ‘Anderson no respect the opponent, no respect Chris Weidman.' This is not real. I respect Chris Weidman. I respect my opponent."

Silva has showboated and taunted plenty of opponents in the past including Forrest Griffin, Demian Maia and Stephan Bonnar, all of which whom he defeated decisively.

The 38-year-old also made not that while he feels his legacy as a fighter is complete, he like to follow in the footsteps of American pioneers of the sport Randy Couture and Dan Henderson, who fought into their 40’s.

As a matter of fact, Henderson is still active at 43-years-old and is set to rematch Vitor Belfort at UFC Fight Night 32 in November.

Meanwhile, Couture shockingly managed to compete at the highest level of the sport until he was 47-years-old.

Will Silva live up to his word and make Weidman’s title reign short-lived or will the former two-time All-American wrestler prove he has the Brazilian’ number and again win in definitive fashion?
