Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva: UFC Doctor Would Have Given Me ‘Liver Cancer in a Year’

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva is making some bold statements regarding the company doctor who put him on testosterone replacement therapy.

Silva told MMA Fighting that he was anything but satisfied with the treatment he received from Dr. Marcio Tannure, the medical director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA).

"I had videos showing him injecting (TRT) on me, I had emails and everything, but I had to give up on that."

The hulking Brazilian was suspended for nine months by the UFC for elevated levels of testosterone after a five-round classic with fellow brawler Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33 in December.

"After the suspension, I went to two endocrinologists and they told me I should thank God that I was suspended," he said. "They said that if I continued taking the dosage (of hormone) Dr. Tannure told me to, I would have liver cancer in a year."

Shortly after the suspension was issued, Silva indicated he would pursue legal action against Tannure, but gave up on the case after discovering he was the ‘UFC’s doctor in Brazil.

Silva is currently ranked the No. 4 heavyweight in the world according to the UFC’s official rankings and is 2-1(1) in his past four fights.

The Strikeforce import sees his suspension expire in August and will likely remain without a matchup inside the Octagon until then.
