Bellator Settles Eddie Alvarez Dispute, Rematches Michael Chandler at Bellator 106

One of the most recognizable faces on the Bellator roster is done trying to fight his way out of the company and is finally taking his talents back to the cage.

After nearly eight months of a bitter legal battle, which included appearances in federal court, Eddie Alvarez have come to terms where he will rematch Michael Chandler at the company’s inaugural pay-per-view card in November, USA TODAY reported.

Alvarez lost the Bellator lightweight strap to then-unknown undefeated prospect Michael Chandler in November 2011, which Yahoo! Sports dubbed the “Fight of the Year.”

“The Silent Assassin” bounced back by avenging a submission loss to Shinya Aoki, knocking him out early in the first round, and taking out perennial contender Patricky Freire with a brutal headkick.

The UFC offered Alvarez a contract in January, since the Freire fight was the last one on his Bellator contract. However, Bellator matched the offer, which led to litigation since Alvarez did not believe the offers were truly equal.

Despite initially vowing to fight the number 2 MMA promotion in the world until he was out of his contract, Alvarez looks like he had a change of heart after it looked like the legal battle would go deep into 2014.

Since scoring the upset over Alvarez, Chandler has become one of the biggest stars in Bellator, easily disposing of Akihiro Gono, Rick Hawn and David Rickels after his landmark win.

The long-awaited rematch will mark the end of a 13-month layoff from the cage for Alvarez, who has trained with UFC standouts Frankie Edgar and Edson Barboza in the meantime.

The November 2 pay-per-view, simply known as Bellator 106, will be headlined by Quinton Jackson vs. Tito Ortiz, two veteran competitors who captured the UFC light heavyweight title over the course of their long careers.
