Charles Oliveira: I Will Beat Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar in Rematches

One of the UFC’s most intriguing prospects, Charles Oliveira, believes the time when he can take out top contenders at 145 pounds is now.

Speaking to MMA fighting, the flashy Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace explained that he would like a second crack at both Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar, who both notched decisive wins over Oliveira in the past 18 months.

“I want another opportunity against Cub Swanson. I was injured in that fight, it wasn’t my night. And I’m sure I’ll have another opportunity against Frankie (Edgar). I know that, and I will avenge those losses."

Swanson scored a quick knockout over Oliveira at UFC 152 in September 2012, though reports indicated the Brazilian injured his knee during warm-ups for the bout.

More recently, Edgar, a former UFC lightweight champion, easily outboxed and outwrestled the submission specialist at UFC 162 in July.

Oliveira returned to his winning ways last weekend at UFC Fight Night 26, tapping out Andy Ogle with a triangle choke.

With the victory, the 24-year-old is now 3-2 in his past five fights.

Despite being ranked outside the division’s top 15 according to the UFC’s official rankings, Oliveira believes a title shot in 2015 is within the realm of possibility.

"I’m in the UFC to fight anyone. I deserve to fight a top 10. I know I still have a lot to do to get to a fight with Jose Aldo, but I’ll get there one day. No one is unbeatable. There’s no super hero in MMA. He didn’t clean out the division."

After starting his career 14-0, Oliveira has posted a 3-4(1) record in his subsequent eight bouts and has never defeated a ranked opponent.
