UFC President Dana White has a potential welterweight slugfest in mind for fight fans before the end of the year.
The UFC’s head honcho told UFC.com that the promotion is eyeing Tyron Woodley vs. Hector Lombard as the next pivotal clash at 170 pounds.
"What's weird about that is that Woodley calls out Matt Brown, but he's ranked higher than Matt Brown," White said.
Hector Lombard - that's the fight we want to do. Hector said yes, we're just waiting to hear from Woodley. Lombard said he would fight him, no problem."
Woodley had an impressive performance at UFC Fight Night 48, scoring a quick, brutal knockout over dark horse contender Dong Hyun Kim.
The bout was Woodley’s second bout this summer, rebounding from a one-sided decision loss against Rory MacDonald at UFC 174 in June.
Despite the setback, Woodley is still 3-1 in his past four matchups – including scoring the biggest win of his career over former WEC/Interim UFC champ Carlos Condit at UFC 171 in March.
The win was a bit controversial, as “The Natural Born Killer” sustained a serious knee injury and was unable to continue a couple minutes into the second round.
As his Twitter followers know, Lombard has been anxious to get a fight ever since he defeated Jake Shields at UFC 171.
At one point also angling for a fight with Brown, it appears that “Showeather” may have found his next opponent in Woodley.
