Dana White: I Don’t Understand Why 46-Year-Old Renzo Gracie Wants to Fight Again

World renowned Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach Renzo Gracie recently stated that he’d like to fight at least one more time before he hangs up the gloves for good, but it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen under the UFC banner.

At the UFC 168 media tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UFC President Dana White revealed that he is perplexed by the notion that the 46-year-old Gracie wants to fight again (via MMA Fighting).

"I have to ask Renzo Gracie why," White said. "Renzo, you've been around forever, you've accomplished so many things. You have the respect of the entire combat world in every country.”

“I just don’t know why he wants to come back at his age and fight again … I mean, he lost badly to Matt Hughes, who was at the end of his career too."

Gracie, a sixth degree black belt in BJJ, is 3-3 in his past six bouts and hasn’t fought since the aforementioned TKO loss to Hughes at UFC 112 in April 2010.

Furthermore, the New Jersey resident hasn’t won a fight since he defeated Frank Shamrock via disqualification (knees to a down opponent) in February 2007.

Gracie, who has trained former UFC champions Matt Serra and Frankie Edgar - as well as current titleholders Georges St-Pierre and Chris Weidman – believes he has been able to hang with the young fighters in the gym and has one solid scrap left in him.

Should Gracie take White’s advice and stick to coaching or does the MMA pioneer still have plenty left to offer inside the cage?
