Despite Losing 4 of Past 5 Fights, Manager Says Gray Maynard Will Fight Again

Former two-time UFC lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard has lost four of his past five fights inside the Octagon, with each defeat coming via way of knockout.

Despite struggling against the upper-echelon lightweights at 35 years old, “The Bully” will solider on and look for more fights – according to his manager Dave Martin.

While Martin was not directly quoted, UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday that Maynard would return to the cage despite the recent rough patch.

Maynard (11-4-1(1)) was unbeaten through 11 professional fights, rightfully earning him a crack at then-champ Frankie Edgar at UFC 125 in January 2011.

The bulky 155-pounder easily rag-dolled “The Answer” when they first met in April 2008, but he met a much tougher opponent when UFC gold was on the line.

Despite delivering huge shots to the New Jersey native in the first round, nearly finishing him on multiple occasions, the next four rounds were back-and-forth and the matchup ended in a split draw.

A heavily-anticipated rematch took place at UFC 136 in October 2011, with Maynard once again starting strong but Edgar put the exclamation point on the bout: scoring a brutal knockout in the fourth round.

After a five-round snoozefest against Clay Guida at UFC on FX 4 in June 2012 – though Maynard was hardly to blame – it has been all downhill from there.

Maynard has since suffered three straight knockouts at the hands of TJ Grant, Nate Diaz and Ross Pearson.

Should Maynard do the right thing and hang up the gloves for good or does he still have a few good fights left in him?
