Faber: After 3 Years, Dominick Cruz Could Only Come Up with a ‘Third-Grade Insult’

Former WEC featherweight champion and perennial UFC bantamweight contender Urijah Faber doesn’t seem overly impressed with the latest insult old nemesis Dominick Cruz recently hurled at him.

In his comeback fight at UFC 178 after three years on the shelf, “The Dominator” referred to Faber’s camp (Team Alpha Male) as “Team Alpha Fails.”

Cruz steamrolled No. 5 ranked bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki at the pay-per-view event last month, needing just 61 seconds to score a dominant TKO victory.

Based on an interview with MMA Fighting, “The California Kid” was anything but offended but the swipe at his fight team.

"I mean, we weren't really sitting around thinking about Cruz these past three years," Faber said.

"We've been out winning fights and winning titles and starting businesses. I guess he was just sitting around with his surgeon thinking about us and thinking about what he'd say when he came back. And then all he could come up with was a third-grade insult."

Faber, 5-1 in his past six fights, is the only fighter to defeat Cruz inside the cage – scoring a submission win with his patented guillotine choke back in March 2007.

The two rematched back at UFC 132 in July 2011, with Cruz winning a hard-fought decision after 25 minutes of action.

After head coaching opposite one another on season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter, the rivals were set to have a rubber match at UFC 148.

However, the first of many in a long line of ACL injuries kept Cruz out of the bout.

Cruz is 3-1 against Team Alpha Male Fighters, also notching two wins over two-time flyweight title challenger Joseph Benavidez.

Current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw – the first UFC champ in Team Alpha Male history – is set to meet Cruz in his next title defense at a 2015 event to be determined.
