Following Devastating Knockout Over ‘Shogun’, Dan Henderson Still Eyeing UFC Title

After three straight losses, most fight fans thought the 43-year-old Dan Henderson should have called it a career a long time ago.

However, if nothing else, The Team Quest gym co-founder showed us that he still has remarkable one-shot knockout power in his rematch with Mauricio Rua on Sunday night.

After looking slow and getting outworked by “Shogun” for the better part of the first two rounds, Henderson responded with his signature “H-bomb” in the third round.

The blistering shot, which he then followed up with hard punches on the ground, broke Rua’s nose and left him out cold on the canvas.

In a post-fight interview with FOX Sports, the respected veteran, who won world titles in Pride and Strikeforce, still wants a UFC belt to place on his mantle.

“That's the last goal of mine and the last thing I need to achieve in this sport is getting that UFC title. I've had other titles, but that UFC belt still eludes me. I'm still after it and I feel like I'm still capable of doing that,” Henderson said.

“There's so many guys at light heavyweight now and half the fans are asking me to go down to middleweight, so I'm really open to anything."

Henderson, who suffered his first career knockout loss after 40 professional fights against Vitor Belfort at UFC Fight Night 32 in November, is now 2-3 in his past five bouts.

Both of those wins came against the fellow ex-Pride champion, Rua, who coincidentally is also 2-3 in his past five matchups.

The fan friendly slugger was slated to face Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight strap at UFC 151 in September 2012, however, the event was cancelled when Henderson was withdrew from the bout just eight days out due to a knee injury.
