Looks like things have went from bad to worse for Bellator light heavyweight title Ortiz.
The ex-UFC champ, who was forced to withdraw from his first Bellator fight with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in November due to a fractured neck, was arrested early Monday morning in West Los Angeles for suspicion of DUI.
Local media outlet KTLA broke the news Monday afternoon, also reporting that Ortiz was arrested around 4:30 a.m. after crashing into a concrete divider on the 405 Freeway.
“Ortiz was driving northbound on the I-405 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the concrete center median,” a press release sent to the news station said.
Ortiz was released at 8:13 a.m. after posting his $15,000 bail, the report says, and was driving a 2012 Porsche Panamera with two passengers in the vehicle when he crashed and no one sustained any injuries.
After being one of the most dominant forces in the UFC’s light heavyweight division for years, compiling a 15-4 record between May 1997 and October 2006, Ortiz’s career took a nosedive: with just a 1-7(1) in his next nine bouts.
Despite retiring after a debatable decision loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 148 in July, Ortiz opted to make a comeback and signed a deal with Bellator just over a year later.
Following his neck injury, Ortiz is still waiting to resume a full schedule of training and does not have a fight currently booked.
Ortiz has not commented publicly since his arrest was reported.
