Two ranked lightweights are set to clash inside the Octagon this spring in hopes of entering a crowded UFC title picture.
Perennial contender Jim Miller is set to scrap with rising star Bobby Green at UFC 172, which takes place on April 26 in Baltimore, Maryland.
The UFC News Twitter page announced the matchup on Friday.
Miller is 2-2(1) in his past five fights, dropping pivotal fights in the division to Nate Diaz and Benson Henderson, while defeating fellow submission specialists Joe Lauzon and Fabricio Camoes.
Miller came up on the wrong end of a rear-naked choke in his UFC 159 fight with Pat Healy in April, but the result was changed to a no contest when the Strikeforce import tested positive for marijuana during his post-fight drug test.
Despite a relatively unimpressive run as of late compared to his seven-fight win streak between July 2009 and March 2011, Miller remains the no. 9 lightweight in the world in the UFC’s official rankings.
On the other hand, Green enters the matchup on the strength of seven straight victories, coincidentally fresh off a hard-fought decision win over Healy at UFC on FOX 9 in December.
The former King of the Cage welterweight champ has become a dark horse contender at 155 pounds due to his recent winning ways and has earned the distinction of the UFC’s no. 12 lightweight in the world.
UFC 172 takes place at the Baltimore Arena and is headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira.
