Jon Jones Open to ‘Super Fight’ with Chuck Liddell in Light of Recent Comments

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is generally considered the best fighter in the world, but UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell still thinks he could’ve taken him in his prime.

“Bones,” who defends his title against Liddell’s friend/training partner Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 on Saturday, wasted little time in responding to the bold claim.

Check out what the Greg Jackson’s MMA standout said on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight (per MMA Mania):

“He (Liddell) has been coming out saying a lot of other stuff like he’d walk through my punches if he fought me and that he would beat me in his prime and all this type of stuff. I’m not going to sit here and insult Chuck — he’s a very, very loved person by the masses,” Jones said.

“I’m just going to keep my mouth shut, but, it’s like c’mon, Chuck, just knock it off. I respect you…. At the end of the day, if Chuck wants to come out of retirement, I welcome him to a super fight."

At one point one of the most dominant UFC champions of his era, “The Iceman” holds the record for consecutive wins by knockout (7), which he accomplished between April 2004 and December 2006.

Liddell unfortunately did not retire on a high note in December 2010, losing five of his last six fights, including getting knocked out in his last three bouts.

Meanwhile, Jones has won 10 straight matchups (eight finishes) and has set the UFC record for consecutive light heavyweight title defenses (six).

On the very marginal chance Liddell came out of retirement, would fight fans take a serious interest if the UFC booked him against Jones?
