Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche essentially believes a long speculated superfight between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano would be very poor matchmaking by the UFC.
Check out what the “Girl-rilla” told MMA Junkie when asked about the potential Rousey vs. Carano matchup:
“I would be surprised if [Carano] lasted more than 10 seconds against Ronda,” Carmouche said. “I think it’s something that would end pretty shortly.”
While Carmouche did not seem particularly thrilled with the potential pairing at first, she said it would be “awesome” if the bout came to fruition since she “always” watches the female fights.
After staring her career as a professional mixed martial artist 6-0, Carmouche has gone just 3-4 in her past seven matchups.
Despite the rough 37-month stretch in the cage, the 30-year-old earned a crack at Rousey in February of last year after scoring back-to-back wins under the Invicta FC banner.
The challenger managed to put the “Rowdy” one in real trouble early in bout, coming close to locking up a rear-naked choke on multiple occasions, but ended up succumbing to Rousey’s patented armbar at the end of the opening frame.
Carano met with UFC President Dana White one week ago and the details of the meeting are yet to be released, though it seems safe to say no contract was signed.
Over the weekend, the UFC announced that Rousey will fight Alexis Davis at UFC 175 on July 5, her third title defense in six-and-a-half months.
Is Carano vs. Rousey still in the cards before the end of the year or was the matchup just a pipe dream to begin with?
