Mark Hunt Calls Out Alistair Overeem for a Rematch

Fan-friendly heavyweight slugger Mark Hunt wants to avenge his July 2008 loss to former K-1/Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem.

“The Super Samoan” explained his desire to rematch the fellow revered striker in an interview with MMAkanvas.com.

"Rematches are always good. I’ve never lost a rematch with any fighter. I always like to avenge my losses, too,” Hunt said.

“I saw Alistair in Japan (and) we were talking, he’s a nice guy but as a fighter, he’s got it over me, I’ve got to get it over this guy. It’s a match I’d like to have... the outcome won’t be the same."

Hunt is 4-1-1 in his past six contests, most recently engaging in a rarely-seen 25-minute heavyweight brawl with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC Fight Night 33 in December.

The bout ended in a draw and was widely considered a late contender for “Fight of the Year,” but fell out of the running when Silva failed a post-fight drug test for elevated levels of testosterone.

Meanwhile, “The Demolition Man” has hand his hand raised in 9 of his past 11 bouts, though is just 2-2 in three contests inside the Octagon.

He snapped a two-fight losing streak when he demolished former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC 169 earlier this month, racking up 139 strikes to an unheard of five for Mir.

Overeem submitted Hunt in just over a minute when he cranked a keylock in just over a minute in their summer 2008 encounter under the Dream banner.

Neither big man has an opponent lined up for their next fight.
