UFC dark horse welterweight contender Matt Brown has to worry about Erick Silva next month, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t already thinking about a title shot.
In an AMA on Reddit MMA, “The Immortal” one was not shy to give his opinion when asked if he believed he had earned a title shot after six straight wins (five knockouts) inside the Octagon.
“Yes (I deserve a title shot) and I believe I would beat Hendricks handedly (sic),” Brown wrote.
Brown also went on to reiterate that he was not particularly impressed with Hendricks’ victory over Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 last month.
“Cuz I don't patty cake. Anyone I hit that many times will be ko'd no question.” Brown responded when asked why his “patty cake” game is superior to that of Hendricks or Lawler.
Last month, shortly after Hendricks defeated Lawler in what many considered an entertaining 25-minute brawl, Brown stated on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour that he didn’t think the matchup was anything special since he thought it looked more like a game of patty cake than an MMA fight.
Brown faces Silva at UFC Fight Night 40 on May 10 at the U.S. Bank Arena, which takes place in front of his Cincinnati, Ohio home crowd.
Even with a win there, a title shot is anything but guaranteed as other contenders such as Rory MacDonald, Tyron Woodley, Hector Lombard, Jake Ellenberger and ever Lawler are all anxiously awaiting a championship bout of their own.
