Former UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard didn’t take long to find a new home after being released late last month.
Bleacher Report reported on Monday that “The Young Assassin” inked a multi-fight deal with the World Series of Fighting, with the exact details of the signing remaining undisclosed for the time being.
A 48-fight veteran, the power puncher was cut from the UFC after a lackluster decision loss to Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 37 a month ago.
While he blamed the loss on two busted ribs and an injured hand, the world’s premiere mixed martial arts organization could not overlook his 2-5(1) record in his past eight bouts.
Guillard is expected to make his promotional debut as soon as July, though no opponent is currently lined up.
The 31-year-old joins other top WSOF lightweights in champion Justin Gaethje and contenders Gesias Cavalcante and Nick Newell.
Touted as a natural athlete with devastating knockout power in his hands, with a wrestling background to boot, Guillard was never able to parlay his talents into a title shot.
The best stretch of his career came between February 2010 and July 2011, where he rattled off five-straight wins (three knockouts) inside the Octagon.
Will Guillard finally be able to reach his potential inside the WSOF cage or will he forever be a fighter who was never quite good enough to wear championship gold?
