Nick Diaz: Georges St-Pierre is ‘Scared to do the Fight’ with Anderson Silva

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz fights ex-longtime UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in January, which means he has more guts that Georges St-Pierre – at least in his own mind.

During an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour yesterday, Diaz ripped St-Pierre for recently stating that he made a mistake by agreeing to fight “The Spider” at 185 pounds (transcription per MMA Mania).

"The thing about old Georges is that he's not doing the fight. He didn't take the fight. He barely said two things, and just like that. But, he didn't want to fight, he's scared to do the fight,” Diaz said.

“The fact is, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about until you’re actually the guy in the driver's seat.”

Most pundits believe that Diaz, who has only fought above 170 pounds twice (catchweights of 179 and 180 pounds), is going to get crushed by the much larger Silva.

A deadly Muay Thai striker who walks around somewhere in the range of 220 to 230 pounds, the Brazilian legend has won 13 of his 26 career victories by way of knockout.

Diaz, known for his iron chin and crisp boxing, is not expected to have the size or the power to hang with a fighter like Silva, but the Stockton bad boy has beaten the odds before.

On the other hand, GSP has been on a nearly year-long hiatus from the sport and it remains unclear if he will ever return to the cage.
