Phil Baroni: I Was Offered to Fight Wanderlei Silva on New Year’s Eve in Japan

Despite just testing the waters at 155 pounds five months ago, 33-fight veteran Phil Baroni says he’s been offered a fight against Wanderlei Silva on New Year’s Eve in Japan.

The bout would presumably take place at middleweight – a weight class that he hasn’t competed on approximately 28 months.

“The New York Bad Ass” posted an awfully thought-provoking tweet on the potential matchup on Halloween.

“If this email is legit f--- yeah I'll fight Wandy Silva NYE in Japan,” he wrote.

Silva, a former PRIDE champion, hasn’t competed since a vintage knockout over Brian Stann at UFC on FUEL 8 last March and has recently verbally sparred with UFC President Dana White over fighter pay.

Less than a month ago, “The Axe Murderer” hinted about a possible return to fighting in Japan on his Instagram page.

"The best of all time! Soon enough the great promotions will be back to bring back the glamour and the respect to the sport. I'll come back with amazing news, you will love it. The monopoly is coming to an end,” wrote Silva next to a picture of a PRIDE logo.

Additionally, it’s also worth noting that three of Baroni’s last six fights have been contested under the ONE FC banner – an upstart, Japan-based fight organization.

While a potential Baroni vs. Silva showdown would undeniably entice a good portion of fight fans, the ex-UFC title challenger has won just one of his past six fights.
