The UFC wasn’t really all that interested in matching up women’s champ Ronda Rousey with Holly Holm or Gina Carano after all, at least according to Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.
Ariel Helwani reported both breaking story’s regarding the UFC women’s bantamweight division, stating that UFC President Dana White is “not interested whatsoever in Holm” and that his company is “not in negotiations” with Carano.
Holm (6-0), a former three-division boxing champ who currently fights for the Texas-based MMA promotion Legacy FC, is one of the few female contenders outside of the UFC right now.
However, White expressed displeasure in working with her manager, Lenny Fresquez, stating that he was done talking to him.
Rumors swirled on Wednesday that Fresquez was asking for a seven-figure deal for his star client, money typically reserved for huge, proven pay-per-view draws like Georges St-Pierre, Brock Lesnar or Anderson Silva.
White neither confirmed nor denied the rumor.
As far as Carano goes, one of the pioneers of women’s MMA was said to be having closed-door negotiations with the UFC to fight Rousey on their annual July 4 weekend pay-per-view card.
While White never flat out denied questions on the subject, he laughed them off as being ridiculous.
Rousey has been in favor of a bout with Carano, even considering the idea of bumping up to 145 pounds to fight her, but if White’s comments are legit, looks like this matchup is dead in the water.
