Ronda Rousey Wins 2014 ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (10-0) isn’t used to losing and that trend continued on Wednesday night when she was recognized as the best female athlete of the year.

The “Rowdy” won the Best Female Athlete award at the annual ESPY awards, earning the distinction over Maya Moore of WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx, Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and Breanna Stewart of Connecticut's NCAA champion basketball team.

Rousey just scored her latest victory inside the cage over Alexis Davis at UFC 175 last Sunday, taking out the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in a mere 16 seconds.

After winning her first eight professional fighters with her patented armbar submission, Rousey has now scored back-to-back knockouts.

Her first stoppage via strikes came when she needed just 76 seconds to stop Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann at UFC 170 in February.

The 27-year-old, who won an Olympic bronze medal in Judo in 2008, has faced little opposition inside the cage, leaving the first round on just one occasion.

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones were both nominated for Best Male Athlete of the Year, but they came up short to undefeated boxing champ Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
