Royce Gracie Rips Eddie Bravo, Open to MMA Fight But Not a Grappling Match

UFC pioneer/Bellator brand ambassador Royce Gracie doesn’t seem interested in squashing his beef with fellow well-known Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Eddie Bravo any time soon.

Appearing on Monday’s edition of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, Gracie slammed Bravo for both his grappling style and marijuana usage, per MMA Fighting.

"I’m pretty much done fighting," he added. "With Eddie Bravo, it’s personal. … (Does Metamoris) allow punches to the face? Do this rubber guard stuff and I’ll punch you in the nose,” Gracie said, making it clear he had no interest in a grappling competition.

"You’re gonna send your kids to learn from a guy that tells everybody that it’s okay to do drugs? It’s ok to drink alcohol? Sorry, man," he explained, stating that Bravo is a bad role model for openly saying he smokes marijuana.

Gracie hasn’t competing in a grappling match since 1998, when he was submitted by Wallid Ismail, and hasn’t stepped inside the cage since a decision win over Kazushi Sakuraba in June 2007.

Bravo wowed fight fans with a 20-minute draw against Royler Gracie, Royce’s brother, in a Metamoris 3 matchup in March, where most pundits agreed Bravo controlled the action.

A third degree black belt in BJJ, Bravo has never competed in MMA and has not expressed an interest in ever stepping inside the cage at 44 years old.
