Sometimes, it feels like UFC matchmaking never works out as planned nowadays. This is one of those times.
Literally less than 24 hours after a light heavyweight bout between Thiago Silva vs. Ovince. St. Preux was announced to co-headline UFC Fight Night 35 in January, Silva has withdrawn from the bout.
The UFC’s official Twitter page broke the news on Thursday, with no official reason given as to why the dangerous Brazilian striker won’t be ready to go early in the New Year.
A new co-main event for the January 15 card, which takes place in Duluth, Georgia, is expected to be announced relatively soon.
Silva looked to keep extend his two-fight win streak against St. Preux, a Strikeforce import.
OSP, who posted a solid 6-1 record under the Strikeforce banner, is 2-0 inside the Octagon since making his debut with the company in April.
The former defensive end/linebacker at the University of Tennessee has won 11 of his past 12 bouts and has compiled a 14-5 record since trading in his cleats for the MMA gloves in September 2008.
After going 14-1 in his first 14 professional fights, Silva is 2-2(2) in his past six bouts.
